EasyPark coming to Portsmouth !

Portsmouth switches to EasyPark good news for Dover Devices will work in either city for users

PORTSMOUTH — EasyPark users can soon add an additional city to their transponders.

Portsmouth signed its contract with the provider, OTI America, last week, and is targeting to be online by the end of January, according to Dover’s Parking Manager Bill Simons.

The city is trying to integrate the garage into the system and is working to allow iPark users to transfer their funds to EasyPark within the coming weeks.

“Once Portsmouth is online, Dover customers will be able to add them to their software,” Simons said. “This is done just how they transfer funds to the device. For people who aren’t reloading, but want to add Portsmouth, they just need to reconnect to their computers.”

The EasyPark system, unlike iPark, is a multitown meter-free parking product, making it a more attractive device to the cities requiring paid parking.

“Sales were steady in Dover last week,” Simons said. “We’ve sold over 70 units already.”

According to Simons, the town of Durham has expressed interest in the transponders and Concord and Manchester are going to view how residents react to the system in Portsmouth and Dover before making the decision to bring the product to their cities. 
“It has the potential to really snowball throughout the region,” Simons said.

EasyPark allows drivers to pay for parking without having to pay a meter. The devices are turned on to the appropriate city and zone a driver is parking in and can be placed on dashboards or on rearview mirrors.

Simons’ understanding is that Portsmouth will also charge $19.95 for their transponders. He said he has recommended, for consistency, that the city also uses the same incentive as Dover and offers $10 worth of free parking.

There is also a $1 per month service fee for the device. Reloading fees are $2.95
for up to $50; $3.45 for $75 and $3.95 for $100. Reloads can be completed online with a credit or debit card. 


What is a personal parking meter ?

A personal parking meter (PPM )  is a credit size electronic gadget that contains pre-paid parking fees and the relevant parking rates and regulations. The driver keeps the PPM in the glove department and when required she turns the device on and put it on the dashboard or side window so it can be verified by the parking warden . The the driver gets back to her car all she has to do is to turm  the device off

The PPM made by PARX is now used by over 1.250,000 users , in some 16 countries and more than 160 cities and municipalities !

Israel - The land of the EasyPark !

"On street" parking activity in Israel is coordinated by the "Union of local Authorities"(ULA ) comprising 202 municipalities and local councils. While ULA provides guidance and assist in providing a country wide parking policy each of the local municipal authorities manages and enforces its own parking program.
Parking operations and enforcement are carried out in most cases by city's employees but operations such as towing, collection of unpaid tickets and certain forms of parking fees payment methods as will be explained later are being outsourced to private operators.

Enforcement is being performed using smart phones or mobile computer terminals equipped with GPRS data links. Whenever a vehicle is inspected the data is being checked automatically with the central Vehicle Registration Office (VRO ) and the data is being compared with the police database of stolen vehicles and any security alerts available so that the parking enforcement activity integrate nicely with police and security forces operation. When a parking ticket is written a picture of the violating vehicle is taken and sent in "real time "to the main server for future reference.
Depending on the specific local authority several parking fees options are provided. Available fee payment alternatives include parking meters, pay & display systems, scratch cards and the EasyPark personal parking meter.

Tel Aviv - " EasyPark city "

Tel Aviv is Israel's second largest city and the country's main center of business, commerce and culture is also center of a metropolis composing around 1,250,000 people. Over 700,000 vehicles are entering the city daily creating major traffic and parking problems. The city operates 110 parking lots and manages some 40,000 paid "on street" parking spaces. Revenues from parking operations (including parking tickets) amount to over € 40,000, 000 annually

Tel Aviv is quiet unique as it is one of the very few cities in the world with no "on street" equipment (Parking meters or Pay and Display systems) at all. The payment alternatives presented to the driver include Pay by phone and the Easypark personal parking meters.
Until recently buyers were also able to use scratch cards but these are going to be taken out of circulation later this year.

The backbone of Tel Aviv's parking fees collection system is the EasyPark personal parking meter. A Personal parking meter (PPM) is a small, credit size electronic device which the driver holds in his vehicle gloves compartment and whenever he needs to park he takes it out, activates the device and puts it on the side window or the dashboard for the parking officer to see. The device contains all the relevant rates and parking regulations so the driver should not be concerned about any possible infringement of parking bylaws.
Using the Easypark the driver enjoys the following advantages over conventional parking fee payment systems:
• Cashless operation, no need to look for coins
• He pays only for the exact amount of time parked
• No transaction costs, the driver pays no "extras"

Increase capactity at no cost

When installing parking meters marking is usually made to assure that each parking meter will be connected to a well defined parking space . The standard spacing being used today is 20' . However importing foreign made cars and the on going tendency of US manufacturers to build smaller and small cars makes this standard obsolete 

Needless to say that taking 20' as the minimum requirements cause a significant waste of expensive parking assets 

With the Easy Park PPM no marking is required as the device is already assigned to a specif space. Using the Easy Park the municipality can ' by a conservative estimate ass some 20% parking spaces without investing a single cent

The City of Austin Selects the EasyPark™ System
